Recently, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series drew my attention to something happening couple of hundreds kilometres away from where i live: the Syrian tragedy. The series (produced by Amazon) is telling the story of US CIA agent Dr. Jack Ryan, who is trying to track down a terrorist network plotting a biological attack on American soil.
In the midst of the events, we visit Syria in the first season of the series, the country which we see is literally broken, between extremist terrorist groups, and between a people half of whom live in a devastated country, and the other half are trying to cross the sea as a refugee to Europe, and between the attacks of American drones, which some time hits legit targets, and sometime they didn’t, leaving tragedies, screams, more loss and more suffering.
The excellent produced drama gives us scenes of Syrians crossing the border into Turkey, in inhumane trucks, stacked like sardines, with hay under them, spending hours on the road non-stop, even to respond to call of nature, and then reaching the gathering camps run by outlaws who receive huge sums (in the form of money or women jewelry) in order to present Basic services: entering a primitive bathroom that no one can imagine using, putting on a used life jacket (you don’t know if it will help you in need or not), pushing you and your family into a rickety boat with dozens of others, in a promise to get you to Europe coasts.
Very harsh scenes, presented by the series with the utmost accuracy, to show the extent of the tragedy that humanity failure have reached, and the extent of the suffering to which this country and its good and generous people are exposed. This series and other works of art and drama put strong pressure on the international community, in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, and therefore i wasn’t surprising that this aid was on the list of the first meeting between US President Joe Bid and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was held last week in Geneva. I hope that the grief will be lifted from the beloved Syrian people soon.
